Athena . . . named after the Greek Goddess of wisdom.
The Athena is operated by Classic International Cruises and is now based year round in Australia and marketed as a mid-sized, easy-to-get-around ship offering a traditional liner experience, personal, old-fashioned service, fine cuisine and a warm camaraderie amongst passengers and crew.
The Athena was first put into service as a transatlantic liner in 1948 as CARIB and since then she has had five more names. She was refitted in 2004 and can now carry 600 passengers and a crew of 260.
The 16,200-ton Athena features a wrap-around promenade deck, traditional wooden deck chairs, a pool, fitness centre and sauna, five bars and lounges, nightclub, show lounge, casino, library, boutiques, cinema and formal and casual restaurants.
